Children's Ministries • AWANA

AWANA is a structured program for girls and boys ages 3years old to 6th grade. In AWANA Clubs we hear exciting bible stories, memorize and understand bible verses through our handbooks, earn awards, sing, play games, and have fun with special events. Awana introduces children to Jesus Christ and builds an enduring biblical foundation for their faith.

Why is it called AWANA?
The acronym comes from the first letters of the phrase: "Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed." 2 Timothy 2:15 " Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth."

Who leads the clubs?
An AWANA leader is a committed believer who walks with the Lord, and desires spiritual growth. Leadership opportunities and training are available if you are interested in fun and fulfilling ministry with children.

When do the Clubs meet?
Our AWANA Clubs meet every Wednesday night from September thru May at 6:30 pm-8:15 pm, with the exception of Cubbies, which ends at 8pm. AWANA will not meet during the weeks with holidays such as Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years Day or Easter.

How are the Clubs grouped?
The children are placed in clubs by ages and school grades to provide maximum interest and activity for everyone. Truth & Training has separate clubs for girls and boys. Parents should be aware that class sizes will be limited according to appropriate student/leader ratio.

The Hopper and Jumper Handbooks are geared to encourage parental support and teach Bible truths along with popular preschool concepts of color, shapes, and letters.

Requirements for little ones to join Cubbies are as follows:

  • Cubbies registration will be accepted on a first come/first serve basis.
  • Open to all preschool age children
  • Must be 3 years by September 1st.
  • Must be toilet-trained

  SPARKS (K-2nd Grade)
Sparks include a fun firefly character named Sparky, a red vest with accompanying awards for "Sparkies" to wear, and a nature motif. Children are motivated thru the three ranks by Sparky. The handbooks provide Bible memorization and other Bible centered activities.

  T&T (3rd-6th Grade)
Truth and Training is a four-year program with a sequence of four handbooks entitled The Ultimate Adventure Series. Streamwood, the dog as well as six clubbers, will go along with the children through all four books on the "Ultimate Adventure" a relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ.

Registration Costs: This year there will be a participation fee of $10 per child (with a maximum of $30 per family) to help cover the cost of handbooks, awards, and classroom supplies. We will be collecting this fee the first few weeks of Awana, when handbooks are awarded. Please let us know if there is a financial need as we have some nice used uniforms and special funds to help in these areas. We want all children to be able to attend Awana
